Bugalugs Dog-friendly Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has become a popular product for dogs, and can be used topically, or as a food supplement. So why is it so good?

Coconut Oil comes from the meat of the coconut, which contains saturated fats. These saturated fats (MCTs) are often found in kernel oil, butter, and milk. All which are great for the skin and coat. MCTs are fatty acids which are often considered as ‘good’ fat; these fats, when consumed in moderation, can have some great benefits for our four-legged friends.

So, what are the benefits of Bugalugs’ Coconut Oil for dogs?

Well, there are some studies that show coconut oil, when consumed in moderation, can reduce skin inflammation, it can also aid in battling fungi, support healthy brain function, and may help to lower cholesterol. Not only this, but coconut oil can also aid soothe hot spots, itchy, dry skin, and dry and cracked paws when applied topically. It can also make an ideal conditioner, so if your pet is prone to tangles and matts, you could work coconut oil into the coat to aid in their removal.

How Do I Use It?

Our Bugalugs Coconut Oil is free from any additives or preservatives, it’s highly palatable and delicious for dogs, making it an ideal treat! So, why not ‘treat’ your dog to some delicious homemade biscuits made with Bugalugs’ Peanut Butter and Coconut Oil. Simply scoop the Coconut Oil for dogs into a small saucepan and heat on low until it is fully melted. Next, remove the pan from the heat and mix in some Bugalugs Peanut Butter (you may also like to add a small amount of ginger or cinnamon). After you’ve mixed these products together, all that’s left to do is pour it into some dog-friendly moulds and pop it in the freezer, giving it time to set. You can give your dog 1-2 of these treats per day.

Alternatively, you can flake the Coconut Oil onto your pet’s food, by using a spoon to scrape the flakes from the top. You may also like to melt some coconut oil down and put it on a lick mat with some other goodies to help keep your dog occupied. The coconut oil is a great way to give your dog a little energy boost and is also perfect when it comes to hiding medication for fussier dogs. For topical use, simply melt the solution by placing the tub into some boiling water, use a tablespoon to spoon out some oil and rub it onto the area you wish to use the oil on.
