Prepare for this Festive Season!

Spooky season is a fangtastic time of year for all the family, including your dog. As Halloween grows in popularity in the UK, more and more families and business are embracing the ‘spirit’ with spooky events and festivities, so why not include your fur-babies too? From dog-friendly costume guides to yummy pumpkin recipes, Bugalugs have got you covered to ensure this spooky season is a memorable one.

Creating the Right Atmosphere.

Spookiness takes centre stage when it comes to Halloween and by choosing the right decorations, you can capture the atmosphere perfectly, making your house a popular place for ghoulish guests to make an appearance. Displaying skeletons, flame-free jack-o-lanterns, ghouls and ghosts can help create the right atmosphere to give your guests a truly terrifying experience. However, unlike us, dogs don’t understand that it’s Halloween and they may become frightened by the decorations, especially if they’re sensor activated. To keep your furry friends comfortable, it’s important to introduce the decorations slowly and place them out of your dog's reach, ensuring their safety and comfort during spooky season. For any extremely anxious dogs we’d recommend using our Hemp Oil or Calming Powder to help keep them calm during seasonal disruptions, such as Halloween decorations, and fireworks around bonfire night and new years eve.

This scent also comes with a matching deodorising spray, perfect for spraying onto your pet, their bedding, or their blankets. The calming duo is a must have for any anxious pets and although perfect for the festive season, they can be used and purchased all year around.

Trick or Treat?

Treat! Treat! Everyone loves a good treat. As children, we’d all know the houses to go to when it comes to getting the best Halloween treat - full size chocolate bars and entire packets of sweets, it would become a competition between friends to see who could get the most. So, adults, be prepared, don’t let those kids down. So many supermarkets are offering spooky treats to give out during Halloween, so why not get your dog involved too!? There are plenty of dog-friendly Halloween goodies to make sure your furry friend doesn’t miss out on the fun.

Fancy Dress Ideas

The possibilities are endless when it comes to Halloween, you can be anything you want to be! You could dress up as your dog, your dog could dress up as you! Hey, it’s your Halloween, we’re just making some suggestions.

We’ve seen so many cool ideas the past couple of years, but my favourite (Chelsea) has got to be the doggy Wednesday costume. If you haven’t seen it, you’re missing out. Complete with a dress, plaited wig and stripy socks the Wednesday costume as got to be the crème de la crème of the Halloween season. Whatever you choose to dress your dog up as make sure that you introduce them to the costume bit by bit and gradually increase the amount of time they’re wearing it for. This will help to reduce anxiety and ensure your pet is more comfortable when it comes to wearing the costume on Halloween. Make sure to secure away any decorations or open flames whilst your dog is taking part in the festivities, we don’t want any lose garments catching fire or pulling over decorations.

What Can I do with my Leftover Pumpkin?

We hate to see wastage and with pumpkins being such a prominent part of the Halloween season, we thought it would be a great idea to include a section in our blog about how we can recycle leftover pumpkins to reduce waste and keep our furry friends happy. Sounds like a win-win to us!

Pumpkin is a superfood when it comes to dogs. They’re full of fibre which aids digestion, rich in nutrients such as Vitamins A, C and E as well as minerals such as Iron and Potassium. It’s low in calories, supports urinary health and it’s very filling which can help dogs and pawrents with weight management. So why waste it!?

There are loads of recipes available to help you get the most out of your pumpkin and ensure that they don’t go to waste. Here are some of our top choices:

Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Biscuits – all you need is flour, eggs, pumpkin, Bugalugs Peanut Butter, cinnamon, water and 15 minutes!

Frozen Pumpkin and Peanut Butter Treats – Made with our Peanut Butter, Coconut Oil and leftover Pumpkin (made into a puree). Prep time is 5 minutes, it couldn’t be easier!

These treats should be ready for Bonfire night so why not serve them up with a drizzle of Hemp Oil and keep your pet calm throughout the night’s events. Tasty, calming and packed full of nutrients, sounds perfect to us!

With all that said, we hope you have a FANGtastic Howl-o-ween. Don’t forget to tag us in your spooky season posts by using @Bugalugspetcare. We can’t wait to see your BOOtiful faces.
