Feeding Your Dog Pumpkin.
Did you know pumpkins can be spooktacular for your pet’s health?! Yep, that’s right, feeding your dog pumpkin is beneficial to your pet’s health, and this spooky season Bugalugs are here to tell you how.
Pumpkin is full of vitamins A, C and E, and it contains minerals like iron and potassium. These aid in bone growth, reproduction, immune responses, eyesight, skin and coat health, and much more. On top of this, pumpkins are packed full of fibre, so feeding your dog pumpkin can aid their digestive health and help to ease constipation or diarrhoea. Fermentation of the same fibre produces beneficial fatty acids which aids in supplying energy to cells. Not only this, but it can also help to lower the acidity levels in dogs’ large intestine.
How much Pumpkin should I give my Dog?
But like anything, it must be given in moderation. As previously stated, pumpkin is high in fibre, but it is also quite high in calories. This mix may decrease how much protein and other nutrients your pet can absorb if given too much. Therefore, it is important to limit their pumpkin intake. Pumpkin may also be high in sodium if the pumpkin is canned, so like all food, the fresher the better! To keep your dog in the best health possible, it is recommended that their pumpkin intake should be less than 10% of their daily calorie allowance.
